Tutorial - Expanding the available guide filters in WG 1.7

Post by lottoarchitect » Sun May 24, 2009 3:34 pm

In this tutorial, we'll examine the potential of the "mother covering" feature introduced in WG 1.7.

Using this feature, we can literally allow WG to work with any type and amount of guide filters, as if they were available in WG itself.

For example, we may want to use the "Last digit" filter as guide in WG, which is not available in WG. Is it possible to build a covering in WG with that filter, as if it was available within WG? The answer is YES! The "mother covering" feature comes into play to allow this to happen.

We'll use an external program, such as Lotto Architect that contains a huge amount of available filters. What we aim here, is to prepare the initial mother covering outside WG. We setup all the filters in LA we want to behave as guide mode in WG and construct the blocks produced. We then import that covering as "mother covering" in WG, however we do not setup any filters as guide since the "guide mode" effect of WG has been already included to the mother covering. We still can use the filters of WG in normal mode of course.

So, the rules to follow are:
1) We prepare an initial set of blocks, which will be the mother covering to import in WG. If we want to play with a certain selection of numbers (for example to construct a v = 20 covering in WG we need to pick 20 numbers), we also select them to the external program (i.e. LA). If we want to use the whole set of possible numbers, we can ommit that step.
2) we setup to the external program (i.e. LA) all the filters we want to be used as guide in WG.
3) we get the outcome produced by the 1) & 2 ) steps above. This is a set of blocks that will be used as the mother covering in WG.
4) we import that set of blocks as mother covering. In that import mode, we are not allowed to have WG's filters in guide mode but the effect of a filter in guide mode in WG is already included in the mother covering we import. We still can use the available WG filters in normal mode if so desired. Additionally, WG automatically detects the numbers to use for the "my numbers" panel.
5) we optimize as usual. The constructed covering in WG, will be according to the filters set, as if they were available in WG and in guide mode!

cheers
