Re: Development - Wheel Generator 1.6

Here is another example of WG 1.6 optimization.

12 numbers : 5,9,11,16,22,30,32,36,38,39,44,47
Group 1 : 9,11,22,47 - request 2 numbers
Group 2 : 5,16,30,32,36,38,39,44 - request 4 numbers
Group 3 : 11,30,32,36,39,44 - request 0-4 numbers
Group 4 : 9,11,16,30,32,36,38,44,47 - request 0-4 numbers

The above groups are overlapping. We'll create an 12,6,5,6 FD covering.

WG produced the following

12,6,5,6 = 19 FD 100% (missing 352/924 - 61.9% unconditional 5if6). As a reminder, 12,6,5,6 = 38 unconditionally.

05 09 11 32 39 44
05 09 16 22 32 38

11 22 32 36 38 39
16 22 38 39 44 47
22 30 36 39 44 47

The best competitive wheeler I could come up with produced this covering in 20 blocks

12,6,5,6 = 20 FD 100% (missing 390/924 - 57.79%)

05,09,11,30,38,39
16,22,30,39,44,47
05,09,36,39,44,47

Other such wheelers couldn't go below 23 blocks... Again WG proves to be a champion in optimization. With fewer blocks, it offers 100% FD and also increased unconditional coverage (WG:19 blocks offer 61.9% 5if6 whilst competitive wheeler: 20 blocks offer 57.79%). If WG was set to build for 20 blocks, the unconditional coverage is now increased to 64.72%, an improvement of 6.93% to catch 5if6 even if we fail to the groups set.

WG 1.6 12,6,5,6 in 20 blocks

Data tells everything, only one comment: Wow!

It can be another WG victory: how many lines for L = 2 (at least 5if6 in 2 lines)?

If the "best competitive wheeler" can make wheels with L>1, it's reasonable to expect a wheel 2 lines smaller from WG.

As a matter of fact, WG made the above covering in 18 blocks!

12,6,5,6 = 18 FD 100% (missing 384/924 - 58.44% -> still above the 20 blocks of the competitive wheeler and now we are minus 2 blocks !!!)

05 09 11 16 38 39
05 09 11 32 36 39
05 09 16 22 30 32
05 09 16 39 44 47
05 09 22 36 38 44
05 09 30 38 39 47
05 11 16 22 32 44
05 11 16 38 39 47
05 11 22 30 32 38
05 11 22 30 39 44
05 11 32 36 39 47
05 16 22 30 36 47
05 22 32 38 44 47
09 16 22 30 36 39
09 22 32 38 39 44
11 16 22 36 38 39
16 22 30 32 39 47
22 36 38 39 44 47

I'll give it a try for L = 2 in WG. We can construct right away an L=2 from an L=1 by doubling the lines, so this should produce an 12,6,5,6,L2 = 2 * 18 = 36 blocks for WG and 12,6,5,6,L2 = 2 * 20 = 40 blocks for the other wheeler since these are the high bounds now. However, we usually can make an L=2 with fewer tickets. Unfortunately, the other wheeler is not capable for L>1 so to compare results. If you have such a wheeler, feel free to post a result for L = 2

And here is a quick build in WG for 12,6,5,6,L2 = 33 FD 100% (missing 503/924 - 45.56% for L=2, 315/924 - 65.91% for L=1 5if6 unconditionally). This L=2 is 3 blocks smaller compared to doubling the 12,6,5,6 = 18 above.

And yet an improvement to the 12,6,5,6,L1 with the 4 overlapping groups... ;) That's minus 3 blocks compared to the best other wheeler I could come up with... and we are talking about a small covering, where most people would afford to play. This translates as saving 15% money compared to the other best wheeler or 26% to the others with 23 blocks to achieve the same guarantee...

12,6,5,6 = 17 FD 100% (missing 446/924 - 51.73% unconditional 5if6)

I'd like to announce that the development of WG 1.6 is over. During this week it will be subject to extensive testing and hopefully within next week, it will be made officially available. A precise date will be announced soon.
The main additions to the program include:
  • a detailed hits analysis for normal and filtered coverings.
  • The filters "position" and "distance".
  • Expanded the filter 'common numbers" which is now named "number groups" and now supports an unlimited number of groups. "Side-effects" of the numbers groups is the ability to design additional filters such as "banker numbers", "Low/high", "Decades" or any such size and Serotic coverings XifY.
  • Ability to build filtered coverings using the exceptional WG engine. Samples of its building power can be seen at all the previous posts.
Further additions will come to the following releases.

Finally after all that teasing :-). Is the save filters still in consideration?

Of course Maryland, this will be the next thing to add in WG (presets). This does require some design to operate seamlessly in WG and I had to draw a line where WG 1.6 development should stop; we can't add everything in one update, otherwise the update would delay quite a lot! However I wanted first to add the crucial elements missing, such as the detailed hits analysis and the ability to construct FD coverings, which was actually quite demanding to make it produce these outstanding results. The presets mechanism will operate on all the settings. The next update will start soon as well with further enhancements and additions.
