Hi LA,

In "Optimization" should be a check for "Loging opt" or something like that.
The log file itself should look as follows:

13/04 14:43 Opt started v:49 k:6 t:3 m:6 b:163 Standard Absolute Speedup:Y Mb:256
13/04 14:44 Imp:0147 Cov: 27,4212651%
......
13/04 14:59 Imp:1239 Cov: 98,2269784%
......
13/04 15:02 Opt paused v:49 k:6 t:3 m:6 b:163 Standard Absolute Speedup:Y Mb:256
13/04 15:09 Opt resumed v:49 k:6 t:3 m:6 b:163 Extensive Absolute Speedup:Y Mb:256
13/04 15:32 Imp:0223 Cov: 99,2827280%
13/04 15:32 Imp:0224 Cov: 99,2827302%
...
13/04 15:35 Opt paused v:49 k:6 t:3 m:6 b:163 Extensive Absolute Speedup:Y Mb:256
13/04 15:36 Cov saved v:49 k:6 t:3 m:6 b:163 Extensive Absolute Speedup:Y Mb:256

Log lines should be writen each time there is an improvement or any user activity made, as "adding records" "clear" etc., and a "Display log" function" is needed as well.

Filtered covers could be indicated but in summary, as well as any other :
13/04 14:43 Opt started v:49 k:6 t:3 m:6 b:163 Standard Proportional Filtered Speedup:Y Mb:256
and in any improvement:
13/04 15:32 Imp:0223 Cov: 99,2827280% Fil: 100%

I'm not quite sure if it could be better avoiding too much loging actívity (too much loging lines), writing loging lines not at every improvement but every time it is % change of, lets say, 0,0100000% in covering:
13/04 15:32 Imp:0223 Cov: 99,2827280%
13/04 15:32 Imp:0239 Cov: 99,2912345%

In this example 15 lines are not writen and the log file will be smaller and easy to read.

Also, for any new covering, the log file could be initialized i there is a unique log file, or created a new one if WG allows any number of files and name files.

Hope this could help.

A new addition to WG is the ability to construct full coverings (system and filtered) which now target the Jackpot. WG till now was capable to produce only abbreviated coverings of the form t if m where t<>k or m<>k. A covering which directly targets the jackpot would be set as c(v,k,k,k), however, this construction is not possible within WG. Now, we can generate such coverings, either as system or filtered full coverings. That means we can now construct the complete set of blocks produced for the given v,k parameters (t,m are not considered when dealing with full coverings), or the famous serotic coverings (as filtered) - also called Matrix - that offer a jackpot, as per the example posted for generating Jackpot Serotic coverings in LA.

I'm glad to announce a new feature to WG, one of the most important missing till now, which is the ability to set the status of individual values of the filters. Till now, we only had the ability to define a range e.g. sums 60 - 180. Now, we are able to setup any particular value to our liking, similar to the way the filters operate in LA. For example, we can define any sort of ranges for sums i.e. 10-20, 42-48,50,58-122 etc and this feature is also available to all other filters. With this new feature, it is possible to introduce new filters, such as the consecutive found in LA, which was not possible to describe as a range. This feature is also required to the construction of the complete set of Serotic coverings for jackpot (see previous post) and also extends the capability of the serotic coverings for the case X if Y (as described in the relevant tutorial) to include more groups.

I'd like to announce that the consecutive filter has been added in WG. This filter is one of the consequences of the individual values feature mentioned earlier.
A new prerelease will be made available soon so to be downloaded by the licensed users. I'll announce it here.

The 2nd prerelease of WG 1.8 has been made available for the licensed users. The download is available at the account login from the website.
This prerelease introduces the concept of individual values and also adds a new filter "consecutive".
Till now, we could only setup a range for the accepted values of the filters. Now, we can setup individually the status (accept/reject) of each particular value. To access that mode, right-click on the range boxes of a filter. This will bring up a menu to switch the mode and clicking that menu will remove the range boxes and display a button named "Values". Clicking this button allows us to setup the status of each value. To revert back to the range mode, right-click on the "Values" button.
More changes include the button "functions" at the number groups panel where some quick-setup operations have been added for the number groups.

Till now, we could only define a mother covering and initialize the covering from that mother covering, without the ability to import a covering which has been derived previously from that mother covering. Now, it is possible to reload the covering right after we define a mother covering. That was a crusial ommission which is now supported in WG.
Also, another feature which has been requested, is the ability to play a sound when an improvement occurs. This feature allows users for example to be away of their desk, i.e. cooking , and WG will warn them that a new improvement has emerged via the PC speakers.
Also, optimized the engine to operate faster when many guide filters are active.

I tried to import a mother covering of 280,000 lines, but I got an error message after about 20%. What would the maximum number of lines the program is designed to import?

Hi spot9,

do you refer to WG 1.7 or 1.8 latest prerelease? What sort of error was that? Generally 280000 tickets can be handled by the mother covering feature well, although the import process is still under revision in WG 1.8. The limitation is the available memory of your system and an inherit limitation of 32-bit OS which allows up to 2GB to be allocated per program running. 280000 blocks can well fit into that memory (actually no more than 100MB is required for that amount of blocks) and I don't see any reason this to be even million of tickets defined as mother. WG 1.8 final release has this feature revised anyway, so if you have issues with the WG you currently run there, the latest release which will come probably by the next weekend, will have all issues solved on this matter.
